Marrowbone (2017)

Horror Movie Rule Number 11: NEVER peek into dark cracks.

Horror Movie Rule Number 11: NEVER peek into dark cracks.

Olga’s Notes:

Note1: The cast of bright young UK talent carries this film well beyond the script limitations.

Note2: Merriam-Webster definition of the word script: something written. Doesn’t necessarily imply it has to make sense, or entertain, or tell the whole story. And yet, that’s exactly what the reader/ viewer expects. “Marrowbone” tells the story, it entertains, and it (kind of) makes sense. But it does so reluctantly, as if under duress. Wonder if Señor Sánchez, the writer and director, is really a poet attempting to pull off a more commercial disguise.

And then there were four.

And then there were four.

Helena’s Notes:

Note1: I really liked Anya Taylor-Joy in “The VVitch”. Here, she got on my nerves the minute I first saw her. It’s not Anya’s fault, it’s the casting guy’s fault for giving her a goody-two-shoes role. I want to see this girl as a grown up, powerful, devil may care, natural-morality worshipping witch - a bitch for short.

Note2: “Marrowbone” is scary. Whatever Olga has to say about the director, he pulled off the scare factor way better than the vast majority other so-called horror movies. Oh the tension! You could literally cut it with an axe.
